U.S. Army General Curtis Scaparrotti assumed duties as Commander of European Command and as Supreme Allied Commander of Europe for the U.S. Department of Defense in late spring of 2016. Before this, he was the Commander of the United Nations Command, the Combined Forces Command, and the United States Forces Korea. He also served as the Director of Joint Chiefs of Staff, the body of the most senior uniformed leaders within the Department of Defense. In the United State military, he directed key operational and strategic missions, which include his commanding of forces during Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), Support Hope (Zaire/Rwanda) Joint Endeavor (Bosnia-Herzegovina), and Assured Response (Liberia). His awards and decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, and the Army Meritorious Service Medal. He has earned the Combat Action Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and Ranger Tab.
Currently, he serves as a senior counselor for The Cohen Group, a business advisory firm that provides corporate leadership with strategic advice and assistance in business development, regulatory affairs, deal sourcing, and capital raising activities.
