A Just-the-Facts Glimpse Into the State of the American Family

America’s youthfulness is waning. Over the past century, the percentage of children under the age of 18 has dropped from 4 in 10 to 1 in 5. This is but one reason why Conservatives’ concern for family policy has grown in recent years. After ceding the playing field to progressives for too long, declining birth and marriage rates have spurred Conservatives’ participation in the conversation in an effort to keep the family at the center of the American economy. These discussions must be grounded in fact, and the Ethics and Public Policy Center’s Family Almanac attempts to provide a comprehensive look at the state of family economic security and other aspects of family life today.
