8 fellows to study “Politics & Policy Writing as Literature”

March 26, 2024 — The Hertog Foundation selected eight young professionals to participate in its virtual seminar, “Politics & Policy Writing as Literature.”

This online seminar, led by acclaimed novelist and essayist Boris Fishman, will explore the craft of political and policy writing through classic campaign and biographical texts. Fellows will also complete a series of writing assignments followed by a final project that engages with a political or policy issue from an original writing-craft perspective. 

This virtual seminar belongs to the Foundation’s Humanities at Hertog Program, a series of online courses devoted to the humane study of literature, history, religion, philosophy, and the creative arts.

15 fellows to study “Emily Wilson Iliad

February 20, 2024 — The Hertog Foundation selected 15 university students and young professionals to participate in its virtual seminar, “Emily Wilson’s Iliad.”

Led by the inaugural Dean of the Humanities at Hertog program Mary Elizabeth Halper, this online seminar will encourage fellows to explore not only questions central to Homer’s Iliad but to also consider how translation may interrupt or illuminate its timeless meaning. All fellows receive full scholarships, all course materials, and a stipend to support their study.

This virtual seminar belongs to the Foundation’s Humanities at Hertog Program, a series of online courses devoted to the humane study of literature, history, religion, philosophy, and the creative arts.

15 fellows to study “China Beyond Beijing”

February 6, 2024 — The Hertog Foundation selected 15 university students and young professionals to participate in its virtual seminar, “China Beyond Beijing.”

Led by geopolitical risk analyst Jeremy Furchtgott, this online course will introduce fellows to open-source intelligence tools that are underappreciated yet accessible and rigorous, including maps, travelogues, historical accounts, and other primary-source materials. All fellows receive full scholarships, all course materials and a stipend to support their study.

This virtual seminar belongs to the Foundation’s Security Studies Program, a series of online and residential courses devoted to grand strategy in theory and in action.
